Doctor referral

ACC-funded MRI scans can be ordered for suspected ACL injuries by:

• Sports and exercise medicine physicians
• Orthopaedic surgeons
• GPs with a special interest (GPSI)
• GPs who have completed GP led MRI training

These clinicians can also discuss anticoagulation medication participants (prospective or enrolled) and prescribe this.

A number of clinicians have agreed to prioritise ENCORE referrals (you will be told who is available in your area). To facilitate this process, please include this information in referrals:

• Subject: Urgent referral - ENCORE Study - ?ACL rupture
• Body: Please include the following key info:
  • ? ACL rupture - ENCORE study
  • History supporting ACL rupture (such as)
    • collapse to ground +/- pop
    • unable to continue +/- weight bear
    • rapid swelling at time of injury
    • past history of injury/surgery to that knee

Please also refer immediately for knee plain films, with skyline view (for DDx of patella dislocation.
